In May 2013, Laureate and Universidad Europea de Madrid held the Laureate Summit on Youth and Jobs, and brought together more than 200 leaders from business, education and government to confront the serious challenge of youth unemployment in the region. Education ministers and heads of state from Spain, Cyprus, Germany, Ireland and Italy attended the summit.
